Welcome

For our first few years, we rented the education wing Florida Street Baptist Church. It was a great partnership — the building was well suited for our needs as a school and the rent paid allowed the aging congregation to thoughtfully plan their future as a church. Eventually, church leadership decided to close the church, and as part of that, wanted to leave a legacy of care for the Glenwood neighborhood. To our great honor, they voted to gift the building to Hope Academy GSO. This ensured a permanent, debt-free home for us in Glenwood! We will forever be grateful to our friends at Florida Street Baptist Church.

Over the years our enrollment has grown. We now serve over 100 students. 2021 marked an exciting year for Hope Academy GSO as we opened our first Kindergarten classroom. This is a big move forward toward of our goal of becoming a K-8th grade school.

We’ve enjoyed a rich history that bears the fingerprints of so many — we appreciate our community first and foremost. We have the best parents & students in Greensboro! We are also incredibly grateful to our many church and business partners, as well as the individuals who dedicate their time and resources to providing an excellent Christ-centered education for students in Glenwood. Here’s to the next chapter!

I look forward to seeing you soon,

Welcome to Hope Academy GSO!

Hope Academy GSO opened in August 2012, the realization of a dream a long time in the making. The roots of the school are grounded in an afterschool program for children in Glenwood that operated out of Grace Community Church for nearly 10 years. College students and adults throughout Greensboro volunteered in that program, helping kids with homework and encouraging them in their development.

Kids & parents throughout the community loved and appreciated the program, and volunteers stuck around for years. It didn’t take long for folks to start wondering what it could look like to form a school.

A planning committee formed in 2010, with a 5-year plan geared toward opening the school in 2015. God’s timing was a little quicker than the team’s, and when a building and funding came available, the decision was made to open sooner. We opened our doors in August 2012 with 24 students across 5th-8th grades.
